All Power to the Imagination!

The motto of Jan Švankmajer – “the last heir of French surrealists” – has given the name to a pilot project of The Czech Season in Dresden organized by the State Art Collections of Dresden under the supervision of Jiří Fajt. Its goal was to make a contemporary art scene of the Czech Republic accessible to German cultural public and to introduce its protagonists. The festival offered a rich cultural programme, from a sculptural installation in a public space to summer theater performances, music and film, including its culmination with an exhibition of contemporary Czech art in a dialogue with works of classical modern art in a local Kunsthalle in Lipsiusbau.

The whole identity of the project is accompanied by mirrored typography, distinctive colors and avantgarde typesetting work. In addition to a wide range of printed material, posters and leaflets, two issues of newspaper and a catalogue summarizing the entire project including the final exhibition were published during the project.
