Pavel Kosatík: Emil Běžec
The first comprehensive biography of the legendary Olympic winner, who never gave up, on the track or in life in communist Czechoslovakia, a great topic in the time of refugee crisis, is always on the move. Running as a central theme of life, text and design starts on the cover of the book, where unexpectedly begins pagination with page number as well as time 00:10. It runs through the book, finishing on the back cover in time of Emil’s 1954 Brussel 10,000 meters record - 28:54.2. Similarly, eg. a hundred and thirty-fifth page of the book has a number of Zátopek’s Parisian 5000 m record – 13: 57.2. This is not the only thing in the book that moves. The page layout quietly shifts left to right. And the pictures are pouring over the pages as if they wanted to defect to the other side! Finally, the book is dominated by orange athletic clay. Exhausted? Run faster!
